Workers swap warm beds for cars! There is obviously no substitute for a nice, cosy double bed during the cold winter months, but due to rising fuel costs, some workers are swapping their home comforts for a night in the car! The recent RAC and FairFuelUK survey found that one in 16 respondents were sleeping in their cars to avoid having to drive to and from work, using valuable fuel. MoneySavingExpert.com's study also found that the rising price of petrol is the number one cost-of-living issue respondents want the Coalition Government to deal with. Although a 3p rise at the pumps expected to be announced by the Chancellor George Osbourne this week has now been delayed - due to pressure from the aforementioned RAC and FairFuelUK as well as The Sun and the AA - the general public are still feeling the pinch. The rise initially scheduled for January has been delayed until April, at a cost of £500million, although economists believe such action will boost growth and create up to 175,000 jobs. A treasury spokesman added: "We are committed to solving today’s problems and preparing for tomorrow’s challenges by investing in our future and equipping Britain for the global race."
