Bed of the Week

Aeroplanes usually aren't the most comfortable places in the world to get some kip, but the new Boeing 747 Aeroloft luxury jet could be set to change all that. The high-end plane has eight separate sleeping berths between its upper deck and tail, as well as a shared changing area for passengers enjoying bed rest at 25,000ft. Boeing Business Jets, marketed as the ultimate in business air travel, already offer passengers a kitchen, conference and dining area, lounge, private office, bathroom and executive suite. The first Aeroloft plane flew from Wichita, Kansas last week, heading for Lufthansa Technik in Hamburg, Germany where it is to be fitted with even more deluxe fixtures. It will enter service in 2014 and while the price of flying on it has not yet been made public, the typical 747-8 aircraft costs £220 million without any luxury extras, according to the Daily Mail. Boeing worked with aircraft interiors firm Greenpoint Technologies on the design of the new plane. "Aeroloft is one of the more innovative and exciting projects on which we've collaborated with Greenpoint," said Captain Steve Taylor, president of Boeing Business Jets. "We're certain all the BBJ 747-8 customers receiving the Aeroloft will be thrilled with this unique and comfortable space."
