200066596-001Sleeping after learning something new is the best way to store the information, a study by the University of Notre Dame in Indiana has shown. In light of this, if you fall asleep watching your bed with TV you may find yourself remembering key parts of whatever you were watching before you drifted off when you wake up! In their study of 207 students, The University's psychologist Jessica Payne and a team of researchers sought to measure the effect of sleep on memory. Participants were asked to remember several words, and their recollection of these words was tested at specific intervals. The students were asked to recall the words after a night of sleep and after a full day awake. The outcome showed that their recollection of the set words was better after sleep. Ms Payne said: "Our study confirms that sleeping directly after learning something new is beneficial for memory". After analysing the results of the study, Ms Payne advised that anyone who needs to remember important information should look over it just before retiring to bed.
