200324135-001The new album from UK band Kasabian, released last week (September 19th), is dedicated to sleep deprivation, ABC has revealed. Velociraptor!, the band’s fourth album, is said to have been inspired by the sleep disorder insomnia – however, the case in question was not due to the stereotypical rock’n’roll lifestyle that we often associate with bands. In an interview with ABC (September 21st), the band’s songwriter Serge Pizzorno said: “I just had a little baby boy. I mean I was planning just to have a little break, buy a deck chair, straw hat, hollow out some pineapples but that never happened. I got straight back in the studio and I didn’t get any sleep because with a young baby in the house, you don’t.” Indeed, the lack of bed rest proved to be truly inspirational, with Mr Pizzorno confessing he felt that his insomnia influenced the new album: “I owe [the album] to not having much kip. It’s a pretty wild feeling when you don’t sleep for days, it’s quite weird.”
