Roald Dahl said it best: “A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” Whilst Celebrate the Power of a Smile day is not really about beauty, we all know how lovely it is to receive a heart-warming smile, and we agree with Dahl - if you're happy, your face shows it! We believe the secret to happiness and a sense of well-being is in a good night's sleep, so we've got a couple of tips for you to make sure you're always sleeping soundly, both in preparation for Celebrate the Power of a Smile on 15th June, and the rest of the year too! Stick to a bedtime Studies have shown that those who stick to a consistent sleeping pattern are better rested than those with varied schedules. Pick a sensible time that allows for at least seven hours of sleep, and stay with it. Love your bedroom Sleeping properly is much easier in a space that you find truly safe and comfortable. Making sure your bed frame, mattress and bedding are the best for you can really help improve the quality of your sleep - and remember, opting for simple, neutral tones can be more relaxing than bright, stimulating prints. Relax your body and mind Many of us are guilty of lying in bed and mulling over anxieties and stresses of life, instead of focusing on relaxing and sleeping. To fully relax before climbing under your duvet, have a warm bath and shower, read a book or even do a little yoga to stretch out the body. If anxiety remains a problem, consider keeping a journal - this could give you the opportunity to write your worries away at the end of the day, leaving your mind calm and ready for sleep.
