78183305 Insomniacs who lie in bed worrying about failing to fall asleep might want to get up and do something else until tiredness sets in, a study published last month has revealed. Research from The Mental Health Foundation found that getting out of bed until you feel tired is better than staying in bed and feeling anxious about not being able to fall asleep. Around 30 per cent of people in the UK suffer from insomnia or other type of sleep disorder and not getting enough sleep can increase risks to health, the figures showed. Meanwhile, the study urged for those struggling to sleep to make sure that sounds and light are blocked out of their bedroom. It also encouraged the use of ear plugs and a sleep mask to help matters. Dr Dan Robotham, senior research officer at the Mental Health Foundation, said there are further methods that can be utilised to aid peaceful, undistrubed rest: “Try to limit your intake of caffeine late in the day and don’t eat large meals late in the evening as your body spends a lot of time digesting food before you can sleep.”
