As the old saying goes, absence makes the heart grow fonder, and according to Dr Judith Orloff, this is never truer than at night. The author of Emotional Freedom: Liberate Yourself from Negative Emotions and Transform Your Life claims that sleeping separately can be greatly beneficial to couples, especially if they are suffering from sleep issues. Dr Orloff reports that sleeping separately has helped to save the relationships of many of her patients and she herself follows the same advice. Whilst many see sleeping separately as a sign of a relationship’s demise, the negative impact that a partner’s sleeping habits might have on a person are much more damaging and can cause resentment within couples. As Canoe reports, studies support Dr Orloff’s advice, and show that couples suffer from 50 per cent more sleep disturbances if they share a bed. Although some will be concerned that sleeping in separate beds will have an adverse effect on the intimacy in their relationship, Orloff stresses that this does not have to be the case. “Couples can still snuggle and have sensual times and sex before they go sleep in separate bedrooms.” Why sleeping separately could save your relationship Why sleeping separately could save your relationship
