Quite why anyone would choose to leave their comfortable bed in their warm, sheltered bedroom is anyone's guess – but that's exactly what 17-year-old Rudy Hummel of Hermantown, Minnesota, USA has chosen to do. According to the Bismark Tribune, Rudy has willingly made the decision to sleep outside since June 7th last year. What was originally just going to be for the summer soon turned into a much larger idea – he wanted to sleep outside for an entire year. When you take the typical Minnesotan winter into consideration, you'll see that this became a different challenge very quickly. On being asked why he chose to embark upon this task, Rudy simply replied, "I thought, 'I needed more fun.'" When the inevitable snow arrived in Hermantown, Rudy set about making himself a snow house by piling up fresh powder and hollowing out the inside. "I was sick of the tree house," Rudy explains. "When it was windy, the snow would blow in. I'd wake up with an inch of snow on me. My quilt would be encrusted with ice." Though his parents reportedly worry about him sleeping outside in well-below freezing conditions, they continue to let him finish his task as they are a family that's into camping – Rudy first slept outside in a tent, alone, at the age of five. "It's just a natural progression that he'd want to do this," Gail Johnejack, Rudy's mum commented. Teen chooses to sleep under the stars Teen chooses to sleep under the stars
