Sleep

Now that we can officially expect the weather to start improving seeing as the clocks have gone forward once again (we can dream…), the upcoming nicer weather can often make sleeping a little tricky. So in light of this quality sleep conundrum, here are our tips for keeping cool during the night, without resorting to freezing your bedding! Rearrange for better sleep Moving your room around so your bed is near an open window, or even moving to sleep on the cooler side of the house during the summer, can help you keep cool at night. You might even find it better to sleep downstairs, as the warm air will rise making the upstairs slightly warmer. If this isn't really an option unless you want to settle down to snooze in the kitchen, try keeping your curtains closed during the sunniest parts of the day. While it might seem a shame to block out that glorious sunshine, it'll help to keep the room cooler for when you come to sleep later on. Having cotton sheets can also help, avoiding any other sticky-night-inducing artificial or heavy materials. Kicking out anything extra can help too, whether that's cushions, blankets or even your partner… sleeping alone is more likely to help you keep cool! Invest in a fan Investing in a decent fan as opposed to a cheap and cheerful one can be the difference between being kept cool and sleeping well, or being kept cool but awake from the whirring and clicking noises the fan makes. Creating a flow of air through your room is another good way to keep cool. If it's safe to do so, open several windows as well as keep your door open to help air flow around your house. Maintain hydration Keep a bottle of water by your bed, as becoming a bit dehydrated can only make trying to sleep worse. As well as this, you might find it handy to have a cold compress or flannel to hand. This way, when it gets too much, pressing this on your forehead or on the insides of your wrists can help you cool off. Water can be a big help when you're settling down to sleep too. Having a cool shower before bed can help you keep out the troublesome heat, as well as put you in the right frame of mind for sleeping - bliss!   Sources http://sleepfoundation.org/sleep-news/sleeping-when-it-blistering-hot http://greatist.com/happiness/tricks-to-sleep-in-the-heat
