Grey has made a powerful resurgence this year in the fashion world and we are beginning to see this trend in interior design, although we think that book may have had a hand in the sudden popularity of the colour too! When redecorating a room, grey has very often been ignored in the past due to it being perceived as a dark colour. However, a carefully chosen shade paired with the right accents can totally transform any living space. Grey paint or wallpaper is especially good with smaller spaces thanks to its ability to open up a room and make it feel larger. The sleek monochrome theme is a popular choice for bedrooms this year – achieved by bringing together various shades of blacks, whites and of course, grey. The centrepiece of any awe-inspiring monochrome bedroom should be the bed itself, so this is a good place to start. You can’t go wrong with a contemporary upholstered bed. High headboards furnished in soft, grey fabric bring even more prominence to the bed area. For extra effect, bring in bed linen and cushions laced with texture and pattern. To take your bedroom to another level, add a bright splash of yellow or red accent. These colours are great at livening up any living space, especially when deployed with monochrome colours. “Shades of yellow that will work fantastically with grey are Yellow Dark or Hot Sun to create a rustic autumn look. This colour scheme can be used throughout the year and the yellow accent can be substituted for other colours”, suggests Neville Knott, a celebrity interior designer and Crown Paints Colour Consultant.
